Welsh Corgi - kufotokozera ndi mbiri ya mtundu wa agalu

The Welsh Corgi is the oldest breed of dog in the British Isles, originating from Wales, the ancient Celtic land, the birthplace of legends about King Arthur, Merlin the Wizard and the Knights of the Round Table. The origin of the breed is shrouded in legends. He is associated with the “little people”, faeries – elves and fairies of the British Isles. According to Welsh beliefs, elves use corgis as riding and draft animals. On the backs of many corgis, to this day, you can see the “traces” of this harness – the outlines of a saddle on the back and a bridle on the muzzle.

Corgi specialty

Corgis are herding dogs and specialize in herding cattle, sheep and Welsh ponies. They perform their duties by biting cattle by the legs. Due to their low stature, they do not run around the herd, but under the bellies of the cattle, and avoid being hit by hooves. As shepherds, Corgis work differently from other herding breeds: they are not styers, constantly running around the herd, but sprinters, looking after the herd from the side and intervening when necessary – they quickly run under the herd and return the stray animal. When the herd is moving, corgis control it from behind – describing small semicircles “push” the herd in the right direction, and returning the stray animals with bites.

By the way, Corgis work silently, which compares favorably with most shepherd dogs. Although this does not mean at all that corgis are taciturn in an “informal” setting. The range of sounds they make is from very low, if they warn of an uninvited guest, to a sonorous barking, when the dog is playing violent games. Plus growling, squealing and specific “grunts”.

Corgis were not only shepherds, but also guarded children, were pets. Loyal, undemanding, alert, funny and playful, even-tempered and self-confident, Corgis have all the qualities to be an almost perfect family dog.

Nature of dogs

The main advantage of Corgis is their goodwill. Pembroke will always find friends among both animals and people. When meeting strangers, your pet’s reaction will be from neutral indifferent (if he doesn’t like something) to cheerfully active – that’s how good I am and I love you!

In addition to a wonderfully comfortable character, Corgis are distinguished by good health, high stamina, and even caring for a Corgi’s coat is not a problem – Corgis practically do not need to be combed and bathed, but always keep a smart look.

In general, the appearance of the Corgi is the embodiment of the English understanding of elegance, no pretentiousness, the style of the Corgi is the natural beauty of practicality. Something like a tweed suit or Christopher Wren architecture.

And the combination of their appearance and character traits creates a unique charm of this breed.
